Meet The Author Katherine Bailey

When writing and illustrating KATY CARES FOR THE ANIMALS, Katherine
Bailey drew on much that was familiar to her from childhood to the present. Growing up on farms in Vermont and marrying a
farmer, cows, and cats, horses and dogs are part of her everyday experience. The Bailey's have three adult children and
Skyler in the book is one of Katherine's five grandchildren.
Katherine graduated with a degree in elementary education
from Castleton State College, and taught in Vermont schools. Teaching and literacy are dear to her heart, and KATY CARES FOR
THE ANIMALS reflects her experience with teaching reading.
Several years ago Katherine completed a writing course with
the Institute of Children's Literature. She wrote her first story in the second grade at the suggestion of her teacher,
who was attempting to redirect her student's tendency to tell 'stories.' LIAR! LIAR! PANTS ON FIRE! is a story
Katherine wrote about this event. She has two published articles, CHILDREN OF BOON ISLAND and RIDING A BOX TO SCHOOL
published in the LIGHTHOUSE DIGEST of Wells, Maine.
